About the buoy
Sofar Spotter · station SPOT-30979CThe Niue Buoy is a Sofar Ocean Spotter moored about a kilometre off Alofi, on Niue’s western side. It measures the sea surface as it rises and falls and sends a reading every 30 minutes through the Pacific Community (SPC) Ocean Observations network. Wave height, the time between waves and the direction the swell comes from are all measured; wind, sea temperature and visibility come from other instruments and are not part of this feed.
